Database News: Hoover’s Online Replaced

The state-wide library consortium (NCLIVE) that provided Duke University Libraries’ access to Hoover’s Online has replaced Hoover’s Online with a new product, Mergent Intellect. The announcement below is taken from the NCLIVE web site.

Mergent Intellect is a business intelligence application that provides access to private and public U.S and international business data, industry news, facts and figures, executive contact information, and industry profiles. Intellect is powered by the same Dun & Bradstreet data found in Hoover’s, and will include content from D&B’s First Research market reports. Intellect allows users to build lists of up to 250 records for export or print, and also includes a residential record search with list building capabilities not currently offered within the Hoover’s product.

You can access Mergent Intellect from the “M” tab on our database list now, or from the library catalog after 12 noon on 4/3/14.

I tried accessing Mergent Intellect, but I don’t have a username or password for it (I tried my usual duke username and password) and it gives me no option to register an account. Please advise.

Pardon our delayed reply to your blog comment. The blog didn’t email us and let us know your comment was waiting pending review. We’ll work on this issue; but if any of your future blog comments go answered for more than 1 business day, please email us at reference-librarians@fuqua.duke.edu and let us know.

To access Mergent Intellect from off-campus, you do not need a separate username and password for that site; but you will need to enable a Fuqua VPN connection before following our database page link to Mergent Intellect. Details on installing and using the Fuqua VPN are here.

Please note that you will be unable to access Mergent Intellect from a workplace computer (or from a laptop on a corporate wireless network). Most organization firewalls will block VPN.

After you’ve confirmed, that your VPN is installed and activated on your personal computer outside of a workplace network, please clear your browser’s cache and cookies completely prior to re-trying your access to Mergent Intellect.

If your VPN client is installed and active on your personal computer outside of a workplace network; and you are still unable to access Mergent Intellect, please let us know.
