What Employees Need to Know
- All employees are encouraged to participate and will need their manager’s approval. Each employee has the option to sign up for one volunteer opportunity, most of which are generally three to four hours in length. The volunteer events occur during working hours and will be considered a team-building activity.

Q: What is the Fuqua Service Committee?
A: The group of Fuqua employees that Dean Bill Boulding convened to explore and establish Fuqua service efforts. More details are here.
Q: Why was this initiative started?
A: The committee was charged with addressing feedback from our annual faculty and staff survey that employees were interested in having more opportunities to engage with the Durham community and build upon our Fuqua spirit.
Q: Will there be additional opportunities to volunteer and/or a Fuqua Week of Service in the future?
A: The school-wide volunteer opportunities that the Fuqua Service Committee facilitates will be concentrated into a single week. The current plan is to have a Fuqua Week of Service twice per year, in May and December.
Q: Is participation required?
A: No. However, the more people who are able to participate the greater impact we can have on the community.
Q: Can I bring family or friends with me when I volunteer?
A: No. Your time spent volunteering is considered a team building event for Fuqua staff, and therefore non-employees can’t attend.
Q: Can I make a suggestion for a future service opportunity?
A: Yes. If you have a suggestion for the Fuqua Service Committee to explore, you can email the group at fuqua-service-committee@fuqua.duke.edu.
Q: How can I help promote this initiative to colleagues at Fuqua?
A: Talk to your colleagues about it and encourage others to sign up. Upon request we can also create fliers for you to post in your department.
Q: Can I donate money if I can’t participate?
A: No. The Fuqua Service Committee is not able to accept monetary donations in conjunction with these team building service projects. If you’d like to donate directly to one of the organizations or Duke’s Doing Good campaign, we encourage to explore those options on your own.
